Fulda Kristall Control HP2 195/55 R16 91H XL DOT2022

Fulda Kristall Control HP2

The new high performance tyre for tough winter conditions

Excellent Control on Snow
Strong Dry Performance on Winter Roads
High Mileage

Key Benefits

Snow Catcher Technology
Excellent Control on Snow. The centre grooves of the tyre work together to form an interlocking network that catches the snow as you drive, keeping you moving even in severe snow conditions.

3D Bubble Blades
Strong Dry Performance on Winter Roads. Straight sipes on the top of the tread surface allow the presence of more rubber volume. This combined with the 3D bubble blades feature provides stronger blocks for better control on dry roads.

Winter Polymer Blend & Multiple AquaFlow grooves
Excellent control on wet winter raods. Water is absorbed and dispersed in an efficient way.

Flat and Wide (Schwartz, Breit, Stark) cavity
High Mileage. Allows an optimized footprint shape with uniform pressure distribution which results in an even wear.

Engineered Compound Technology and low weight construction
Reduced fuel consumption.

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

The European Union has introduced the EU Tyre Label by Regulation (No. 1222/2009) identically and bindingly for all EU member states. It applies to passenger car tyres, light commercial vehicle tyres and heavy commercial vehicle tyres produced after 01.07.2012.

Three different areas are tested: rolling resistance, wet grip and the rolling noise the tyre makes on the road.

The following are not affected by the EU Tyre Label: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing tyres, tyres with additional devices to improve traction such as spiked tyres, T-type emergency tyres, special tyres for fitting to vehicles first registered before 1 October 1990, tyres with a maximum authorised speed of 80 km/h, tyres for rims with a nominal diameter of 254 mm or less or 635 mm or more.

With this regulation, the European Union is pursuing the goal of promoting economic and ecological efficiency in road traffic as well as increasing road safety on the one hand, and on the other hand, granting consumers more product transparency and at the same time serving as an active decision-making aid.

Already during the incorporation, experts criticise the fact that the EU Tyre Label unfortunately only shows a few product characteristics. Apart from rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling noise, which are the main focus of EU tyre labelling, tyres have much more important and safety-relevant product characteristics, such as aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, braking properties on dry and wet roads, behaviour in wintry conditions, etc.

Tyre manufacturers point out that test results from various institutions and journals remain an important information medium for the end consumer. These tests usually focus on further safety-relevant product characteristics besides the EU standard qualifications for tyre labelling, which are always important for the final customer.

My car is the 90Hp 1.6TDI, CAYB engine and 5 speed transmission. I return on average 65mpg with these Fulda winter tyres on - no drop off from the summers [they were not good summers that came off it]. I drive on UK A and B roads in Shropshire, Herefordshire which are very agricultural with lots of pot holes. I killed a Fulda front tyre in 100 miles as I missed a huge pot hole at night at 50mph, the tyre did not burst but it egged - luckily I bought 6 tyres expecting a problem as the roads are horrendous and the tyres 40 series so too low profile for where I live. I drive to purposely avoid pot holes, but still catch them - the tyres and rims have survived unscathed since. I suspect they are slightly noisier than the summer but only on some road surfaces. Grip is very good in wet and predictable in the dry - not an ultimate grip tyre BUT here is my point, it appears to me on a very low power and lightweight car [1,200kg] to provide very consistent grip regardless of road surface which is what I want. Great grip in wet mud and standing water also. I would recommend for a good general tyre. I've done about 5,000 miles on them so far and wear even at 10degC is fine.

Excellent in wet superb handling and breaking

Although a "Winter" tyre they are a good all rounder mud & snow. Tyre wear is obviously not as good "summer" tyres and other tyres may be better for high speed autoroute driving.
