The ContiCrossContact™ LX 2 - Safe on the road. And beyond.

In the new ContiCrossContact™ LX 2, Continental has added an SUV tire to its portfolio with safe, comfortable on-road performance and a robust design for light-duty off-road driving. Designed for vehicles like the Evoque, Qashqai and Touareg, it is available now, in time for the start of the summer tire season. The ContiCrossContact LX 2 gives up to 6 percent better braking performance, 3 percent better handling, and 10 percent better cut and chip resistance off-road than its popular predecessor. Continental’s development engineers have also improved rolling resistance by 8 percent and mileage by more than 25 percent in the new tire.

For SUVs- and off-road vehicles. Excelent handling in the road and light off-road use. Engineered in Germany, Continental offers premium tyres with optimum braking performance and safety. Excellent dry and wet braking performance and very good handling properties. Fits perfectly for example to Toyota Land Cruiser, Jeep Cherokee and VW Amarok.

Highlights:

Excellent dry and wet braking performance and very good handling properties
High mileage and high level of driving comfort
Outstanding traction in light off-road use

Technical details:

Excellent dry and wet braking performance and very good handling properties.
The tyre’s high pattern stiffness is highly impressive. This is ensured by the solid central pattern area, the closed shoulder pattern and additional raised areas within the tread pattern blocks. The tyre therefore offers excellent handling and very good braking properties on dry road surfaces. Short braking distances on wet road surfaces are ensured by the highly siped pattern, which increases grip by means of improved water displacement between the blocks and the road surface.

High mileage and high level of driving comfort.
The continuously closed shoulder pattern creates a barrier against the tyre noise produced in the centre of the tread pattern. A high level of driving comfort is therefore guaranteed thanks to reduced noise emissions. The flat tyre contour facilitates an even distribution of pressure between the tyre and road surface. This leads to high mileage.

Outstanding traction in light off-road use.
The highly siped pattern creates numerous grip angles. These guarantee outstanding traction in light off-road use.

EU Tyre Label and Efficiency Classes

The European Union has introduced the EU Tyre Label by Regulation (No. 1222/2009) identically and bindingly for all EU member states. It applies to passenger car tyres, light commercial vehicle tyres and heavy commercial vehicle tyres produced after 01.07.2012.

Three different areas are tested: rolling resistance, wet grip and the rolling noise the tyre makes on the road.

The following are not affected by the EU Tyre Label: retreaded tyres, professional off-road tyres, racing tyres, tyres with additional devices to improve traction such as spiked tyres, T-type emergency tyres, special tyres for fitting to vehicles first registered before 1 October 1990, tyres with a maximum authorised speed of 80 km/h, tyres for rims with a nominal diameter of 254 mm or less or 635 mm or more.

With this regulation, the European Union is pursuing the goal of promoting economic and ecological efficiency in road traffic as well as increasing road safety on the one hand, and on the other hand, granting consumers more product transparency and at the same time serving as an active decision-making aid.

Already during the incorporation, experts criticise the fact that the EU Tyre Label unfortunately only shows a few product characteristics. Apart from rolling resistance, wet grip and rolling noise, which are the main focus of EU tyre labelling, tyres have much more important and safety-relevant product characteristics, such as aquaplaning properties, driving stability, service life, braking properties on dry and wet roads, behaviour in wintry conditions, etc.

Tyre manufacturers point out that test results from various institutions and journals remain an important information medium for the end consumer. These tests usually focus on further safety-relevant product characteristics besides the EU standard qualifications for tyre labelling, which are always important for the final customer.

Recently tried these 80/20 tyres on some quite rocky and in places steep tracks needing low ratio and they were surprisingly good

Waiting to test in snow conditions as reason for purchase. If ok, then I would buy again.
